These rules were intended to train the people to be reverant to God and appreciate His holiness. Many of the rituals were intended to instruct the people to consecrate themselves as holy people and dedicate their lives to their holy God.

One set of rituals, for example, included offerings. Burnt offerings were intended as an atonement for sin and/or worship. Grain offerings represented devotion to God. The purpose of fellowship offerings was to express gratitude to God. Sin offerings were to ask forgiveness. Guilt offerings were made in payment for sin.

Many other meticulously detailed rituals were instituted to inspire respect and reverence for God.
