III John is a letter to Gaius, a friend of John.

He provides Gaius with encouragement and compassion with respect to a particular individual who is making things very uncomfortable for Gaius through his gossip and unkind words.

John further promises Gaius that when he comes for a visit, he'll attend to this problem.
